Tobago is truly beautiful and so different to Trinidad, calmer more sanitised, manicured and touristy with the rough edges smoothed out.
Today is our final day of our fabulous Trinidad experience before we jet off to Tobago for the last few days of our adventure.
Carnival Tuesday is the main day for Trinidad’s big event as fabulous costume bands parade through Port of Spain and the Savannah.
So at last it’s Carnival which kicks off with J’ouvert and is a hot sunny day of very loud Soca, floats, costumes, drinking and eating.
Dimanche Gras (French for Great Sunday) is a spectacle held at Carnival City on Sunday night with the calypso competition and the Kings and Queens of the Mas Bands.
We get a sneak peek at Trinidad’s impressive steel bands practicing for Panorama on a whistle stop tour of the fabulous PanYards in Port of Spain.
After a good night’s sleep in our AirBnB in El Dorado near Tunapuna we take a two hour maxi taxi journey to the popular Maracas Bay.
When the captain announces ‘we will be landing in Port of Spain in thirty minutes’ I feel the emotional importance of this trip. To honour the birthplace of my Mother and Father with my daughter and granddaughter.
So today is the day we’re off to Trinidad and Tobago. it is cold in England but we’ll be hot hot hot soon. Just an eight and a half hour flight to Paradise !
