Dimanche Gras (French for Great Sunday) is a spectacle held at Carnival City on Sunday night with the calypso competition and the Kings and Queens of the Mas Bands.
The National Carnival Commission of Trinidad and Tobago presents a pre Carnival showcase of performances from Calypsonians including Destra and Calypso Monarch winner Machel Montana, and the senior Kings and Queens costume finals.
Held at the impressive Carnival City in Queens Park Savannah the North Park location hosts annual shows like Panorama for thousands of spectators.
The event begins the carnival on Monday morning (J’ouvert).
Carnival City is also home to a Carnival history exhibition with a timeline of Carnival in pictures.
Alongside artefacts including original steel pans, old newspaper cuttings and photographs.

We have moved from El Dorado to an AirBnB in Valsayn near Curepe which is closer to Port of Spain.
Valsayn is up market area and one of the most expensive residential areas on the island.
The area is very chic with some brightly painted houses and others with steel pan feature walls – see pic.
Valsayn is situated near Eastern Main Road where I visited my Father at his home in 1991.
